The Gradual Learning Of Golf

By: David Hooper

Learning golf is done gradually rather than all at once.

This is not exactly what most Americans are looking for in the land of fast food, now is it?

If you want to learn a sport quickly, then you might want to try a different sport. Learning how to play golf correctly is not done in one day or one year, for that matter. Some players will even tell you that they are still learning new things twenty years since they started playing! There is no such thing as a perfect golf game.

Here are some basic tips that can help you lose a few years of learning the hard way. Not everyone will agree though on all the basics that are recommended, but here is what I have found that help golfers increase their golf score and accuracy.

There are three things that you will want to keep in mind when you play golf. They are

RELAX! Make sure your body and muscles are relaxed!
Keep your head as still as possible.
Dont jerk your club around in your swing. Keep it traveling in a straight line.

Relaxing is one of the most important things to remember when you play golf. This helps you to keep your balance, which helps to keep your swing smooth and free. Be comfortable when you swing so that your body will stay relaxed for the entire length of the swing.

There are not enough words to explain how vital it is to keep your head still throughout your shot. This area is very easy to remedy and can have immediate results in your golf game.

When you keep your head still, you can keep your eyes on the ball. How are you supposed to hit the ball if you do not keep your eyes on it?

If you will keep your club head going in a straight line when you are making contact with the ball, this will help cure your golf slice problems and other problems that may occur.

If you are having a bad run of golf games, then go back to these three fundamental basics. There is no need to change your clubs, stance, or swing. Try to remedy your golf game in these three areas and you are sure to see your game improving before you know it!

Tee the Ball Higher. The old adage has always been that the top of the driver should be about halfway up the ball when it is teed up. However, with a 460cc driver, I like to see you set the ball high enough on a peg such that the top of the driver is no more than one-third of the way up the ball. Of course, this means that the standard 2 1/8-inch tee will not be long enough to accommodate. You will need a tee at least 3 inches in length, but likely a little longer than this.

If the shoulders are in a closed position (facing to the right of the target) the clubhead travel will be inside-to-outside of the target line. With the shoulders parallel to the target line at impact, the clubhead travel will be inside-to-direct. This shoulder motion allows the clubhead to travel to the target, not away from the target as in the other positions.Remember the shoulders must remain passive, and are a follower in your swing, not a leader.

Some Warm Up Tips for Golfers

By: Lee Collins

When it's time to warm up, some golfers think they need to hit the driving range with everything they've got. In truth, warming up to make your game as effective as it can be means that you work on a variety of swings and become familiar with the conditions.

For example, you golf differently on a windy day than if the air is still. You probably play at least a bit different on days when the temperature is raging than when it's cool. Here are some golf tips from those who hit the courses on a regular basis.

Driving is a good way to start, but start slowly. Choose a short iron for your first few drives, giving your muscles a chance to loosen up and to get the feel for the day. Work up to longer drives, but remember that the goal isn't only to see how far the ball will go - control is more important than distance and this is your chance to gather your skills to exercise that control.

Don't just drive. Some people make the mistake of thinking they've completed an adequate warm up once they've managed to make a few successful drives. Take time for some chipping and putting as well. Make the most of your swing and any recent lessons you've had. Remember that a round of golf is much more than teeing off.

One of the most important warm up tips is to get your mood and emotions under control. Smacking your frustrations out on a golf ball probably isn't going to help your game at all - though it might arguably be good for your frustrations. Take time to gather your calm, focus on your game and let the day's troubles fall away. Your mood - especially if it's a bad mood - can greatly impact your game.

Another mistake many people make at the warm up session is to start practicing. This isn't the time to try out new clubs, new swings, or new information. This is a time to play your best game, just as you'll be doing shortly - at the first tee. It's okay to put in a few practice swings if you're working on something you want to put into play for this game, but don't get caught up in a practice session. One of the purposes of a warm up time is to build your confidence. You can't do that if you're continually making errors. Use the techniques you're most familiar with and be ready to congratulate yourself on all your successes during the warm up.

If you are doubtful about the need for a good warm up period, just think back to a recent game of golf that you didn't warm up for. How was your first tee? How was the fourth? Did you spend the rest of the game making up for some poor strokes early on? The warm up is a chance to make those mistakes before they're being engraved on a score card.

Take time to make yourself confident and you'll play a confident game.

To develop a simple, comfortable and effective grip. Your grip is the foundation of your golf swing. Make sure your grip is comfortable. It is important to develop a neutral grip that requires no compensations during the swing. The orthodox position with the V.s of both hands (formed by the forefinger and the thumb) pointing between the chin and right shoulder is a good place to start. Very few good players have grips with the V.s pointing very far from this position. If you want a little stronger grip move the left hand over to the right a little.

When you want to get some extra distance out of your drives, its natural to think that your right or dominant hand (for right-handed golfers) should supply the power. In reality, however, maximum power is a result of a left-hand lead.

Assuming the texture of the sand is similar, and the ball is not plugged, the technique for hitting out of a greenside bunker remains the same for shots up to 30 yards (27m). The key to making this shot is hitting the sand about 1 to 2 inches behind the ball, throwing the sand forward with the ball. For longer shots the only thing that changes is the swing's length. Rhythm and tempo remain the same.
